GET YOUR BEST HAIR EVER
MAKE A PEACE WITH YOUR LOCKS
End the war with your hair by working with it, not against it. For example, the most obvious solution to untruly curls, waves or fly-aways is to rebond, but the healthier approach is to build relationships with a trusted stylist who will help you find a cut and style that works for your specific hair type, says Jasmine Lisbona of Hairworks Salon, whose team styled most of the looks for this story. For dire cases, you have to be willing to spend on specialized products to fit your hair type, but the long-term effects are worth it.
GET BANGS FOR YOUR BUCK
If you’ve lived all your life with “curtain hair” – that one – length cut sans a fringe, now’s the time to usher this safe cut to the exit. A rough way to check is to gather a few locks of hair and brush over your forehead, suggests Lisbona. Not ready for blunt, lash-skimming bangs that are all the rage? Ask your stylist to take it slow with a long, sideswept fringe. The one thing you don’t want to experiment with is cutting your own bangs. “This should be left to a seasoned hair professional”, says Louis Kee, Pantene style Council Member and owner of Razzle Dazzle Salon in Ortigas. Only a pro can design spectacular bangs according to your face shape, hair type, texture, and lifestyle. “Botched bangs can be very difficult to grow out and recover from”, Kee warns.
GET A STREAK ON
If you’re getting your hair colored for the first time, the first thing to do is get skinned for any allergies. “A well trained colorist should give you a patch test as part of your initial consultation”, says Danilo Espirito Santo, Grand L’Oreal Color Trophy Winner and stylist at Angelo Falconi Salon.
Another thing to consider is your level of commitment. “Ask yourself if you’re willing to visit your colorist regularly”, says Crissy Cantada of Hairworks Salon, who colored the hair in this photo. Light colors call for monthly touch-ups, while darker shades call for less maintenance – which is about every three months, says Cantada.
