Experience the "Newest" Area of Florence, the Oltrarno

Beautifully-structured buildings, century-old churches and a reflection of the past—those are the reasons why many tourists dream of visiting Florence, Italy. Surely, your travel book will never be complete without exploring this beautiful city, and while others seem to fully enjoy the many wonders of the different parts of Florence, a new addition to the places you must set foot on is its newest area, the Oltrarno.

The Oltrarno makes up approximately one-fourth of Florence, and it is very famous for many of its historical sites such as Palazzo Pitti, Piazalle Michelangelo, Belvedere and Santo Spirito di Firenzi. These churches and tourist spots alone are the very reasons why you need to explore this magnificent city.

Palazzo Pitti

Have you even thought that visiting a different area while strolling around the historical centre of Florence is possible? Then, brace yourselves as a walk on the city centre will surely lead you to one of the newest communities in Florence, the Oltrarno.

Whether you were born with the hands of a painter or not, you’d surely be more than happy to explore Palazzo Pitti. It is situated near Ponte Vecchio and it was formerly owned by the Medicini family in the mid-16th century. This well-known gallery houses over 500 works of art, and most of them date back to the renaissance period. Surely, a journey to this gallery will remind you of the past and what is left of it.

Piazalle Michelangelo

Now is the time that you bring that camera out and strike your perfect pose as Piazzalle Michelangelo is one of the best areas you can ever find in Florence. The view is fantastic—with the mountains, the Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi within just a few radars. Also, it is proximal to the Church of San Miniato, which is one of the best, the oldest and most beautiful churches in the whole of Italy.

Boboli Gardens

If you had enough of your day visit to the wonderful churches of Italy, now is your chance to take a breath of fresh air with a trip to the Boboli Gardens, just near the Palazzo Pitti. If you think this is just one of those regular gardens, then you had it all wrong! The Boboli Gardens do not only include various plants, but they also showcase old sculptures that will transport you to the Renaissance period.

Santo Spirito di Firenzi
One of the most beautiful sites that will make you understand what Renaissance architecture is all about is Santo Spirito di Firenzi, also known as Basilica of Santa Maria del Santo Spirito. It is not hard for tourists to find since it is situated near the city square.
