How to select running shoes?
Running is an activity that
most of us enjoy. To most runners, wearing the right running shoes is a must. Having
the right shoes not only makes you run farther, faster and more comfortably; it
also helps prevent injuries. Are you aware that the shoes being comfortable
when you fit them in stores is not enough as basis for selecting the
appropriate running shoes? As a matter of fact, even the shoe brand doesn’t
have anything to do with it! Then what does? Just continue reading through this
article and you’ll know the stuffs that really matter when choosing a pair of
running shoes.
The very first thing that you
need to do is to identify your running site. Will you be running on paved road
or on off-road routes? Basically, there are two general types of shoes that you
could choose from based on running site. If you are running on paved road or
other surfaces with very small irregularities, you ought to go for road running
shoes. If you are, however, running on off-road routes such as the mountain
tracks, it is best to purchase trail running shoes. These two types of shoes
are designed to boost the running efficacy given the nature of the running
site.
The next thing that you have
to do is to know your shoe size. I advise that you have you size measured using
a Brannock device at every store. You might be unaware that one of your feet is
slightly smaller than the other one. Also, the sizes of shoes vary per style
and per brand. There may be cases wherein you need to get a half size or a full
size smaller or larger than what you normally buy.
Another thing that you have
to consider is your foot’s arch shape. The shoes that you must choose must
complement your arch shape. Arch shape has a great effect on your foot’s
movement during running as is serves to cushion the impact as your foot hits
the ground.
These are just among the
basic things that you need to consider when choosing the right running shoes.
There are still a lot more. For one, when you are going to buy a pair, do it at
the end of the day. During this time, your feet are at their largest as the
whole-day activities cause them to swell up. This will then prevent you from
buying shoes that are smaller in size. To further enhance comfort, you can make
use of you own insoles. Some shoes already have generic insoles placed by their
manufacturers; however, there are individuals who prefer to use their own as it
provides more comfort, better fit and greater support.
