Temple Hopping in Bali, Indonesia
No culture is ever alike, and our traditions are our golden treasure. They separate us from others, and our beliefs are largely influenced by these traditions. Now, one thing that makes Bali, Indonesia special is its rich culture and the abundance of Balinese temples. Over the years, more than 20,000 temples have been established in this beautiful city, and no trip to Bali will ever be complete without setting foot on its beautiful and one-of-a-kind temples.
No matter how unreligious you may be, you’d surely enjoy visiting the some of the most-visited temples of this city, and while you may find delight in being able to stopover more than one Balinese temple within just a route, there are others which are located in areas which are far from the city proper. This means that if you wish to visit as much temples as you can, you have to plan your visit and get to know the popular temples you should dare not miss.
PuraLuhurLempuyang

This temple is known to be one of the most famous and most important temples for Balinese as it is said to guard the locals against evil elements and spirits. If you are adventurous, you won’t have problems climbing approximately 1,700 steps to reach the top. Alongside your staircase to PuraLuhurLempuyang is a mountainous jungle. Sounds terrific, doesn’t it? Not only that, the view from the top is absolutely beautiful and the Balinese are said to visit this temple whenever they have petitions or requests.

TirtaEmpul
While everyone is busy looking for the fountain of youth, you might want to visit the miraculous spring of Tirta, Empul which is believed to bring good health and luck to the Balinese. However, before you enjoy bathing on this magnificent spring, you would need to bring an offering first.

PuraUlun Danu Bratan

Ever dreamt of visiting a floating restaurant? PuraUlun Danu Bratan, a temple dedicated solely to praising and praying to the goddess of lakes, is a beautiful temple that seems to float on a very peaceful and quiet lake. It is situated on Lake Bratan, a couple of kilometres away from Denpansar.

PuraBesakih

The mother of all the temples in Bali, PuraBesakih, is known to be the most holy temple in this city. It is located in the east of Bali and it is highly accessible by those from Ubud, Despasar. It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Bali and if there is one temple you should definitely visit, it’s PuraBesakih.

Pura Tanah Lot

The construction of this temple is unique as it is located atop a rock very proximal to the shore, and if you’re visiting during the high tides, then you’d not be able to enter this holy temple. If you’re after a fantastic sunset or sunrise view, then you’d never go wrong with visiting Pura Tanah Lot.

Truly, Indonesia has the best to offer to tourists. Not only will your eyes feast on this country’s beauty, but it will also surely speak to your mind, body and soul.
